During the lock-down, I took some online painting lessons from a Dutch painter who is an expert at painting clouds and skies. I love his approach. I usually paint “ala prima” (wet on wet) painterly style. His style is more photo-realistic “linear” and a lot more complicated than how I traditionally paint. I can usually render a sky in one sitting. His approach is multi-layered and can take weeks to complete a sky. I had to buy specialty pigments and brushes to implement his approach. I used the new technique for the sky but kept my “ala prima” approach for the foreground. It’s a blend of “linear” painting for the sky and “painterly” for the foreground.
